Nnamdi Kanu is a Nigerian-British political activist and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a separatist movement seeking independence for the Igbo people in Nigeria. He is also the founder of Radio Biafra, a radio station that broadcasts pro-Biafra content.
Kanu was born in 1967 in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria. He studied political economics at the University of Nsukka and later moved to the UK, where he became involved in pro-Biafra activism.
In 2015, Kanu was arrested by Nigerian authorities on charges of treason and sedition. His arrest sparked widespread protests and calls for his release. He was released on bail in 2017 but later fled Nigeria after his bail was revoked.
Kanu's activism has been marked by controversy, with some accusing him of promoting hate speech and violence. However, his supporters see him as a champion of Igbo rights and self-determination.
In June 2021, Kanu was rearrested in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria, where he is currently facing trial on charges of treason and terrorism. His detention has sparked international condemnation and calls for his release
